Skyhawk Track and Field Duo Capture All-American Honors

Sauk Valley Community College sent two individuals to compete in the NJCAA Track and Field Indoor National Championships. Held on the campus of Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, the contest was held on March 3-4, 2023. The Skyhawks making the journey were pole vaulter Cameron Abell on the men’s side and high jumper Teagan Meyers from the women’s team.

Abell competed on Friday and earned his fourth All-American honor of his career. The Erie-Prophetstown athletes cleared a height of 4.43 meters (14’6.25”) on the day and captured 4 th place overall. Abell has been an All-American in every season for the Skyhawks (indoor and outdoor track), and looks to continue the string during his final outdoor season this spring.

Rochelle native and SVCC freshman Teagan Meyers claimed the Skyhawk’s second All American award by tying for third place in the high jump. Meyers jumped an all time best of 1.66 meters (5’5.25) and was the highest placing freshman in the field.

The outdoor season kicks off for the Skyhawks on April 1 st at St. Ambrose and concludes with the NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships to be held on the campus of New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, New Mexico in mid May.
